A Peruvian national, suspected of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity, has been removed from the country, the Canada Border Services Agency said Sunday.
Manuel De La Torre Herrera was arrested July 25 in Toronto, just days after the federal government launched a website featuring 30 most-wanted war-crime suspects.
He has been in CBSA custody since then.
Herrera, 58, was allegedly part of a brutal regime in Peru, and was denied a refugee claim several years ago. He went underground and was only found last week.
In all, five people have been arrested since the release of the most-wanted list.
The CBSA also announced Sunday that the government had received confirmation that another suspect named in the list, Illandaridevage Kulatunga of Sri Lanka, was no longer in Canada.
The agency did not reveal details of Herrera’s deportation.
